What are DVRs?

A DVR (Digital Video Recorder) security system is a traditional and cost-effective solution for home and business surveillance. It works by connecting analogue CCTV cameras to a central recorder via coaxial cable, which captures, processes, and stores video footage directly onto a built-in hard drive.

DVR systems are a reliable choice for those looking to secure a fixed location, offering continuous or motion-triggered recording, remote viewing via smartphone, and playback of saved footage. They are particularly well-suited to properties that already have coaxial cabling installed, making them a practical and affordable upgrade path.

Modern DVR systems support HD and even 4K resolution through technologies such as HD-TVI, AHD, and HD-CVI, delivering significantly sharper image quality than older analogue systems — without the need to rewire your property.

Most modern DVR systems allow remote viewing via a smartphone app or web browser, as long as the DVR is connected to the internet.

What's the difference between DVR and NVR systems?

DVR systems use analogue cameras connected via coaxial cables, while NVR (Network Video Recorder) systems use IP cameras connected over a network or Wi-Fi.

Can I add extra cameras to my DVR kit?
